I studied printmaking at Southern Illinois University where my focus was graphic design and bookmaking. I’ve self- published numerous zines and chapbooks as well as printed commissions for other artists and community organizers. I’ve researched and implemented accessibility standards for designers throughout my practice; one of my core values is to make resources and knowledge available to as many people as possible.
My career in the food and hospitality industry has led me to hone my creative problem solving skills. I embrace creative flow as a way of working through complex issues. I value team spirit and a free exchange of ideas as keys to innovation. Working as a Chef has taught me to view constraints as motivation- I believe the ability to create an above and beyond product is only limited by ones’ own imagination.
In my artistic practice I explore the historical + contemporary relationships between these subjects through skilled craft traditions. Bringing this awareness to visual design allows me to relate deeply to the ethnographic contexts of users and design products that integrate with users’ individual and collective worlds.
I believe that everyone deserves access to knowledge, tools for self- improvement, and personal autonomy. Learning about biases and barriers to access using research helps designers in creating a more equitable and just world.
